Nounfoods
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Food is any substance, usually composed of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and water, that can be eaten or drunk by an animal, including humans, for nutrition or pleasure. Items considered food may be sourced from plants, animals or other categories such as fungus or fermented products like alcohol. Although many human cultures sought food items through hunting and gathering, today most cultures use farming, ranching, and fishing, with hunting, foraging and other methods of a local nature included but playing a minor role. Most traditions have a recognizable cuisine, a specific set of cooking traditions, preferences, and practices, the study of which is known as gastronomy. Many cultures have diversified their foods by means of preparation, cooking methods and manufacturing. This also includes a complex food trade which helps the cultures to economically survive by-way-of food, not just by consumption. Many cultures study the dietary analysis of food habits. While humans are omnivores, religion and social constructs such as morality often affect which foods they will consume. Food safety is also a concern with foodborne illness claiming many lives each year. In many languages, food is often used metaphorically or figuratively, as in "food for thought". Answered by NMcwgrl - Thu Jul 24 14:47:30 2008 What foods make chemical reactions that i can make a meal out of? Q. I am in chemistry class and we need to do a project. I need to make a meal out of foods where chemical reactions occur. I was thinking a main dish and two sides. Any ideas? Asked by xrousseau20x - Mon Nov 9 22:53:47 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. There are many. Cooking is one big chemical reaction. For some starters there is boiling and freezing, which you might consider "physical" changes, but in the general sense they are chemical reactions. There are changes in pH -- for example, the addition of vinegar. There is of course combustion of all sorts. Heat "denatures" proteins, for example cooking egg whites. Sugar melts, then begins to dehydrate. Yeast feeds off sugars in breads and releases carbon dioxide, causing the bread to "rise". There are many more.Vince Calder( how about pickled eggs? this is boiled AND there is a change in the PH due to the vinegar added also, you know that apples bananas, lettuce, potatoes etc turn brown from the air bc of the enzyme reaction? wither… [cont.] Answered by Mrsmeans410 - Mon Nov 9 23:30:41 2009 What are the foods, fruits and drinks that cannot be mixed in order not to get food poisoning?
Q. We do know that there are many foods that if ate together, would react together and would affect the consumer negatively. So what are the foods that cannot be ate together? Many say no meat and milk products together (I have personally experienced this) but there are times when one just needs to be careful (I'll never give up Gyros with cucumber-yogurt sauce--souvlaki and tatziki to the Greeks but I had something similar in the Middle-East that others enjoyed but my stomach ached all day). It really comes down to chemistry in most cases--acidic things like grapefruit and pineapple (especially their juices), vinegar, alcohol, can react badly in your body when mixed with dairy but the best advice is when you eat anything--especially things that you haven't had together--I find that I receive a subtle initial warning right below my sternum, an uncomfortable… [cont.] Answered by Jen LAW - Fri Aug 11 14:54:30 2006 From Yahoo Answer Search: "foods" |
