From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Fast food (also known as Quick Service Restaurant or QSR within the industry itself) is the term given to food that can be prepared and served very quickly. While any meal with low preparation time can be considered to be fast food, typically the term refers to food sold in a restaurant or store with preheated or precooked ingredients, and served to the customer in a packaged form for take-out/take-away. The term "fast food" was recognized in a dictionary by Merriam–Webster in 1951. Outlets may be stands or kiosks, which may provide no shelter or seating, or fast food restaurants (also known as quick service restaurants). Franchise operations which are part of restaurant chains have standardized foodstuffs shipped to each restaurant from central locations. The capital requirements involved in opening up a fast food restaurant are relatively low. Restaurants with much higher sit-in ratios, where customers tend to sit and have their orders brought to them in a seemingly more upscale atmosphere, may be known in some areas as fast casual restaurants. I don't care if I have to wait... is slow food better quality usually than fast food? Asked by Expertatthis - Fri Aug 15 19:45:02 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Fast food consists of saturated fat deep fried in month-old grease by Captain Oblivious and crew. Slow food is made by people who would actually consider eating what they're making. Just my opinion. Answered by jamonbisquit - Fri Aug 15 19:53:00 2008 How do I avoid food while working at a fast food restaurant? Q. I am currently in high school and i work many hours at a fast food restaurant. I am trying to lose weight and exercise regularly, but working at the fast food restaurant seems to get in the way. I find myself eating the fries and ice cream, and it is almost impossible to tell myself no. Does anyone have tips on how to fight this? Asked by COD4LIFE - Thu Feb 4 01:04:33 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. I have to say that when I worked at the Dairy Queen in high school, it took several weeks. After making the food, coming home smelling like burgers, it wasn't hard to skip eating meals at work. I would bring fruit to snack on... Maybe you need to make a break. Bring healthy snacks to nibble on when you get hungry. Make a conscious effort to not eat fast food. Make a health choice and stop drinking pop & milk shakes! Only drink water when you are working... Good luck! I know this will be hard but you CAN do it!!! Answered by Eich (#14 - Stewart Haas Racing) - Thu Feb 4 02:59:28 2010 Why are fast food restaurants appealing to all levels of society?
Q. I've noticed that my favorite fast food restaurant is patronized by all the social classes. You see everyone from down-and-out bums to executives in expensive suits. There's a junker car stuffed with a big family in the drive-through line, and right behind is a brand new sports cars with a rich-looking driver. It has to be something besides price and speed of service that attracts customers. What is it? Asked by Miz D - Fri Jul 16 22:55:57 2010 - - 19 Answers - 0 Comments A. For me the appeal is the fast food--especially the salads and the coffee and the bagel. I really like the workers and most are friends of mine and know me by name. I too have noticed the diversity of people at my local drive through ---the homeless and the rich and the middle class.
