Seafood is any sea animal or plant that is served as food and eaten by humans. Seafoods include seawater animals, such as fish and shellfish (including molluscs and crustaceans). By extension, in North America although not generally in the United Kingdom, the term seafood is also applied to similar animals from fresh water and all edible aquatic animals are collectively referred to as seafood.

Edible seaweeds are also seafood, and are widely eaten around the world, especially in Asia. See the category of sea vegetables.

The harvesting of wild seafood is known as fishing and the cultivation and farming of seafood is known as aquaculture, mariculture, or in the case of fish, fish farming. Seafood is distinguished from meat, although it is still animal and is excluded in a vegetarian diet. Seafood is an important source of protein in many diets around the world, especially in coastal areas.

Question to people who are vegeterians and still eat seafood?
Q. How can some vegeterians who don't eat meat but eat seafood justify the difference? I don't eat meat but i eat seafood sometimes, am i a hypocrite? To some peoples responses I was talking about people who don't eat meat because they think it's cruel towards animals.

A. Oh, ***. We get this question every week and i wish those fish eating people would just go away. vegetarians do not eat fish. Eat as much fish as you like, but never use the word vegetarian to describe your diet. There are some people who eat fish and call themselves vegetarians. They are not. They just choose to make up thier own definition because they cannot be bothered to do the right thing. They confuse the issue for all of us. I have no idea why this confusion even exists. Its like people regularly cropping up and saying why is it some people thing a carrot is a mammal. Its just miles away from the generally accepted formal definition that its laughable. Yuo are a Hypocrite if you call yourself a vegetarian, yes. Its a big… [cont.]

A. Pasta with Alfredo sauce (cream, butter and cheese base) is great with seafood. Alfredo sauce is a base of cream, butter, Regiano or Asiago or Parmesan cheese to which cooked pasta is added with seafood (shrimp, scallops, salmon, clams, crab, lobster, etc.) Or just butter with the seafood. Or just olive oil and herbs.

What kind of broth would go well with seafood such as shrimp and crab?
Q. I'm making a seafood ramen, And I want to know what kind of broth would go well with it.

A. You could use something like bottled clam juice which you could dilute with water if the flavor's too strong. Julia Child suggested using 1/2 chicken broth and 1/2 water for seafood soups/stews as well. If the shrimp that you're using come with shells, you could also make a shrimp broth by boiling them with chopped vegetables (onions, celery, etc) for about twenty minutes.
